Why this is not optional
Alcohol and substance testing at mine access points is a compliance requirement under the Mine Health and Safety Act, not a discretionary safety programme. That makes demand constant, unaffected by commodity cycles, and predictable enough to plan stock around.
Certification matters more than price
A breathalyzer result that ends in a disciplinary hearing or a CCMA referral has to stand up. That means a unit with traceable calibration certification from the manufacturer, and a documented calibration schedule. We supply as an authorised reseller of certified South African brands precisely so that chain holds.
Be cautious of unbranded imported units sold on price. If the calibration certificate is not traceable to the manufacturer, the result is not defensible.
Calibration — coming next
Breathalyzers require calibration at least annually. We are working toward becoming an accredited calibration and service point so that units can be turned around locally rather than couriered to Gauteng. In the meantime we coordinate calibration through the manufacturer.
Straight answers
How often must a breathalyzer be calibrated?
Manufacturers typically specify at least annually, and more often for high-volume units at busy access points. Confirm the interval for your specific model — we supply the manufacturer's schedule with each unit.
Do you supply mouthpieces for units bought elsewhere?
Usually yes, provided the unit takes a standard mouthpiece. Send us the make and model and we will confirm before you order.
Can you supply on a standing monthly order?
Yes. Mouthpieces are a predictable, high-turnover consumable and a standing order removes the risk of running out mid-shift.
