Wet Hire — Equipment and Operator

One rate covering the machine, a certified operator, fuel and routine maintenance — with no operator sourcing on your side.

What wet hire includes

  • The machine, delivered and collected
  • A certified operator holding valid competency certification for that machine
  • Site-specific mine induction completed before the operator starts
  • Fuel for the agreed operating hours
  • Routine maintenance, greasing and daily pre-use inspections
  • Plant all-risk insurance and operator compensation cover
  • Digital timesheets and hour records supplied with each invoice

Operator competency

Every wet-hire operator holds a valid, machine-specific competency certificate, and we will supply copies to your SHEQ department before the operator arrives on site. Certificates are tracked digitally with expiry alerts, so nobody turns up with a ticket that lapsed last month.

Operators complete your site's induction before they start. If your induction runs on set dates, tell us early and we will schedule around it rather than billing you for standing time.

Why wet hire usually wins on mine sites

Mine sites carry induction requirements, competency verification and safety obligations that make casual operator sourcing risky. Wet hire moves that administrative and compliance burden onto us, and gives you a single invoice instead of a machine rate plus a labour broker plus a fuel account.

Wet hire also protects the machine. An operator who runs the same unit every day treats it differently to one who is on it for a week.

Hours and standing time

Wet hire is quoted on an agreed shift length. Hours beyond that are billed at an overtime rate stated in the quote. Standing time caused by site conditions — waiting for a face, weather, or access — is billed at a reduced standing rate, also stated up front.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers

Are your operators employed or subcontracted?

Both, depending on demand. Either way the competency certification, induction and compensation cover requirements are identical, and we supply the documentation before anyone arrives on site.

Can we interview or approve the operator first?

Yes. Several clients do, particularly for long contracts, and we would rather you were confident in the person than discover a mismatch in week two.

What if the operator is unwell or does not arrive?

We supply a replacement of equivalent competency. If we cannot, you are not billed for the machine on that shift.

Need a machine on site this week?

Tell us the job, the town and the dates. We will come back with a rate — not a runaround.
